‘Monster Girls’ Documentary Kickstarter

Monster Girls is a documentary in progress that has caught my eye for some time now and I’m finally placing it in a Horror Roundup! A fantastic effort to shed light on the amazing women past and present in the horror industry is a necessary project. Make sure to follow them on their social media accounts to be updated and this unique and worthy documentary that’s now currently in production!

Monster Girls centers on the history and current work of Women in the SFX industry. Told from the perspective of historians, enthusiasts, and Women in the field, the documentary seeks to uncover and promote some of the horror genre’s leading talent.

Seitz has worked in the horror genre since 2002. Her FX work can be seen in films such as Jakob’s Wife, The Third Saturday in October franchise as well as the controversial EGN series. She is the producer of FUKT, the first anthology to center on Women filmmakers who make extreme cinema, and the director of American Guinea Pig: Chum Bucket. Her documentary Beyond Horror: The History and Subculture of Red Films was the recipient of the BEST DIRECTOR 2019 award at the NIGHTMARES FILM FESTIVAL.

Middle of Beyond’s ‘Evil Dead 2’ Tiki Mugs

Combining two of my favorite things, Evil Dead and mugs, the horror brand Middle of Beyond has created a fantastic and creepy tiki mug. I’m still obsessed over the brand’s Twilight Zone holiday sweater, but then again I’m always obsessed with that series. When you have Lee Cronin commenting on your product about how awesome it is, well you’ve made it my friend!

The film is written and directed by Ryan Stevens Harris. Moon Garden is screening on 35 mm Friday, May 19 & Saturday, May 20 at 7:30 PM at the IFC Center in New York City.

Emma (Haven Lee Harris) is a wide-eyed cherubic only child, stuck in the middle of her parents’ troubled marriage. Her father, Alex (Brionne Davis), is an overworked struggling novelist, while her mother, Sara (Augie Duke), suffers from depression, longing for her lost youth. Both parents care for Emma deeply in their own ways, but cannot hide the reality that their marriage is crumbling.

When Emma has a terrible accident and slips into a coma, she finds herself thrust into a darkly surreal industrial dream world. Haunted by a nightmarish specter that feeds off her tears, she must follow her mother’s radio-static voice to find her way back to consciousness.

‘The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster’ New Poster

Here at Horror Roundup, I love a take on the classic monster movie or Frankenstein. In March, the film premiered at SXSW as a Narrative Feature. This has been Crypt TV‘s first domestic feature film and on June 9, 2023 it will be in theaters, on VOD, and Digital.

Vicaria (Laya DeLeon Hayes) is a brilliant teenager who believes death is a disease that can be cured. After the brutal and sudden murder of her brother, she embarks on a dangerous journey to bring him back to life. Inspired by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster thematically challenges our ideas of life and death. Bomani J. Story, the film’s writer, and director, crafts a thrilling tale about a family that, despite the terrors of systemic pressure, will survive and be reborn again.

“We rarely, if ever, saw ones that tackled issues that were important to us, with people who looked like us.  It has been a dream of mine to bring an adaptation of Frankenstein to film through the black lens with a lead character as smart as my sister. Crypt has been a champion of this story since day one, but it finally clicked together when Laya came to play Vicaria. What an amazing team.”

‘Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story’ Steelbook & Blu-Ray Release

With some fantastic art by Creepy Duck Design, Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story is arriving as a Steelbook release and a Collector’s Edition Blu-ray on July 25th. Robert Englund is a powerhouse and rightfully his story belongs in this latest Horror Roundup!

Since first donning a tattered fedora and a glove of eviscerating blades in 1984, Robert Englund has become one of our generation’s most beloved horror icons. Englund has risen to stand shoulder to shoulder in the pantheon of movie legends alongside such greats as Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee. His portrayal of Freddy Krueger is, without doubt, a moment as visceral to the horror genre as Chaney’s werewolf or Karloff’s ground-breaking realization of Frankenstein’s monster.

Yet few realize the depths of England’s true power as a character actor away from the latex mask and iconic red and green jumper. A classically trained actor and talented director, Englund has starred in many well-received movies in the years since Freddy’s cinematic birth as well as directing his own feature film.

They do things differently on Summerisle. They teach Christianity in passing, but their own beliefs are more ancient… the strange, mysterious customs and rituals of distant places and bygone half-forgotten days. But Summerisle is no distant South Pacific atoll – it is a small, remote, privately owned, twentieth-century island off the western coast of Scotland. To Summerisle comes Sergeant Howie of the Western Highland Police, investigating the alleged disappearance of twelve-year-old Rowan Morrison. What starts as a routine inquiry becomes a terrifying nightmare for this devout churchgoer.

Vampyre Cosmetics is a woman-owned, disabled-owned, and lgbtq+ makeup brand found in over 120 locations (including Hot Topic). The brand was founded by Rachel Clinesmith and Karen Holton only just a few years ago. From a Vincent Price eyeshadow palette to lipsticks that come in packaging that looks like tiny bottles of Merlot, this cosmetics company is for all the gothic beauties out there. Horror Roundup readers, you’re being blessed again by a small business rocking the horror scene. There’s even a special edition of their Dracula Book Palette coming out this summer! Finding out that a new collection is coming to the brand and is connected to a favorite title of mine with Silent Hill has me freaking out. Soon I may run out of money, but my love for creative and pigmented eyeshadows rules all.
