In a tweet, horror author R.L. Stine announced production has started for Netflix's new Fear Street film & which book it'll be based on.

A quick scan of R.L. Stine’s social media today alerted fans of the Netflix film trilogy, Fear Street, of a new addition in the works. Based on the author’s tweet, production has begun on the film and its plot (which of his works it’s adapted from) has also been revealed. The first three films, from director Leigh Janiak, debuted on Netflix in 2021—the stories in the trilogy connected and spanned decades and generations within the fictional town of Shadyside. There was talk of a new film in 2022, but not much else came from that except slight bits and pieces of developing news throughout that year and 2023. This Fear Street movie will be based on “The Prom Queen”, which is one of the books in Stine’s series.

New Fear Street Film Will Be Based on R.L. Stine’s “The Prom Queen”

The first three films, taking place in 1994, 1978, and 1666, premiered in July of 2021. There was a unique and fantastic approach to queer representation in the films and it’ll be interesting to see what is shown in the upcoming title. “The Prom Queen” was published in 1992 and is #15 in the series of books. In Stine’s book, the character of Lizzie McVay realizes that someone is murdering the five Prom Queen candidates one by one — and that she may be next on the list! The book takes place in the same town of Shadyside.
